Lets talk ENERGY

As we approach the silly season, it is even more important to look at protecting our energy flow. Managing and protecting your personal energy is essential for maintaining physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Your personal energy is a finite resource, and how you allocate and preserve it can significantly impact your overall quality of life.

Here are some strategies to help you manage and protect your personal energy:

  1. Self-awareness: The first step in managing your energy is to become aware of how you feel and what drains or replenishes your energy. Pay attention to your emotions, physical sensations, and thoughts throughout the day.

  2. Set boundaries: Establish clear boundaries with others to prevent energy-draining situations. Learn to say no when necessary and communicate your limits to avoid overcommitting.

  3. Prioritise self-care: Make self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. This includes getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation techniques like meditation, deep breathing or maybe just going for a walk.

  4. Time management: Efficiently manage your time by setting goals, prioritising tasks, and avoiding procrastination. I am personally a list writer and I get immense pleasure out of crossing off tasks I have completed, this helps me stay focused and productive.

  5. Simplify your life: Declutter your physical space and simplify your commitments. Reducing unnecessary complexity in your life can help conserve your energy for what truly matters (Pilates 😜).

  6. Choose your company wisely: Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you. Limit your exposure to toxic or negative individuals who drain your energy.

  7. Mindful consumption: Be mindful of what you consume, including the media and information you expose yourself to. Too much negative news or social media can contribute to energy depletion.

  8. Practice gratitude: Cultivate a gratitude mindset by focusing on the positive aspects of your life. Gratitude can boost your energy and overall well-being. I often do a 'Gratitude Audit' at night before I go to sleep, I run through my day from the time I woke up, and think about all the things that I am grateful for, it is surprising how many things there are!

  9. Set realistic expectations: Avoid setting unrealistic expectations for yourself and others. Setting achievable goals can prevent feelings of frustration and burnout.

  10. Delegate and ask for help: Don't hesitate to delegate tasks or ask for assistance when needed. Trying to do everything on your own can lead to exhaustion. I am getting better at his as I get older.

  11. Disconnect and recharge: Take breaks from technology and work. Regularly disconnect from screens and give yourself time to recharge by engaging in activities you enjoy. I like to walk in the hills, or go to a yoga class.

  12. Establish a daily routine: Create a daily routine that includes time for work, relaxation, and self-care. Having structure in your day can help you manage your energy more effectively. Lists!

  13. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness meditation and practices can help you stay present, reduce stress, and conserve energy by preventing rumination on past events or worrying about the future.

  14. Learn to let go: Accept that you can't control everything. Let go of perfectionism and the need to control every outcome, as these tendencies can be energy-draining.

Remember that managing and protecting your personal energy is an ongoing process. It requires self-awareness, practice, and adaptation to the changing circumstances of your life. This is why Pilates is so great for us, we move our bodies, strengthen and lengthen, take time out and breathe, whilst always creating more awareness and strengthening that mind / body connection.

Prioritising your well-being and energy can lead to a more fulfilling and balanced life. ❤️
